Summer Food Service Program Provides FREE Meals for Children
June 24th, 2010
Children in the Hartford community do not need to go hungry this summer. While during the school year nutritious meals are available through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, those programs end when school ends for the summer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program helps fill the hunger gap by offering funding for programs that provide meals for children during the week.
In Hartford this summer there are over 70 locations providing FREE breakfasts and/or lunches to children under the age of 18. Foodshare has provided a comprehensive list of all these locations including information about hours and availability at GOOGLE MAPS. You can also see the attached PDF map and list of locations where these meals will be provided.
Hands On Hartford has partnered with the Hartford Public Library for their Summer Library Lunch Program at 10 library branches, providing free lunches to children Monday through Friday while school is out. Volunteers are needed to help distribute lunches and count the number of meals handed out.
