Thanksgiving 2010 Volunteers Already Filled!
April 1st, 2010
Every November Hands On Hartford gets dozens of calls from individuals and families wanting to volunteer on Thanksgiving Day. "We often have to turn people away for the week or two leading up to that day because we already have the 60+ volunteers needed," said Evan Harrison in the Community Engagement program of Hands On Hartford, who helps coordinate the event.
This year, however, Hands On Hartford Staff was amazed to see that 70 people had already signed up for the Thanksgiving Meal, filling it up seven months earlier than usual. "We sometimes joke that people should sign up for Thanksgiving around Christmas, but this year it seems people aren't kidding!" says Parker Mills, an Americorps Volunteer at Hands On Hartford.
"There's still hope for people who want to volunteer with the Thanksgiving Spirit," CEO Doug Sudell said in an interview today. He says that the community needs eager volunteers year-round to continue making a positive difference in the community.
Take a look at the volunteer calendar and contact Hands On Hartford for ways you can get involved in the community. And for all you die-hard Thanksgiving volunteers, there may be enough cancellations to fit everyone in by early November!
Respectfully submitted,
